Windows 11 is an upcoming major version of the Windows NT operating system developed by Microsoft. Announced on June, 2021, with an expected release in early 2022, the new version was first teased in a blog post by Microsoft on May 8, and was formally announced by Microsoft at the Microsoft Ignite conference on May, accompanied with its design principles, including two changes in the operating system’s title.
Unlike Windows 10, which is based on Windows 8, Windows 11 is built on the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) concept that allows all current and future devices to run UWP applications. Microsoft will continue to update Windows 10 and support all Windows 10 devices until the end of support for Windows 10 itself, which was initially scheduled to be December, 2024, but later extended to October, 2025.
Windows 11 will not provide update support to Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users.
Possible release dates
Windows 11 supports integration with cloud-based services including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft OneDrive, and Microsoft Office 365, and others. All current Windows Insiders are now eligible to be Windows Insider Program Preview testers of Windows 11. Windows Insider Program Preview testing began on July, 2020 with a user-visible build beginning on July, 2021.
Announced with the new build on June, there are a total of 54 changes in the Windows 11 beta. These changes include revisions to the tablet mode, performance enhancements, and several minor changes and bug fixes. It was originally expected that Windows 11 beta would be released in 2021, but it was later delayed to 2022, along with the final release, and Microsoft published Windows Insider Program Preview to be released to Windows Insiders.
Complete new visual design
From rounded corners to the cantering of content and new animations, this new visual design extends across multiple areas of Windows 11. This isn’t just a UI-only feature.
In Windows 11, Microsoft is improving the Snap window management feature yet again with new features. Key among them is Snap Layouts, which enables users to simultaneously pin and arrange multiple windows. These changes are being touted as making Windows 11 more productive.
A total of five desktop UI (graphical user interface) themes are supported by Windows 11, called “Modern”, “Enterprise”, “Composite”, “Hybrid” and “Classic.” All new Windows apps will be Modern UIs, while existing apps will be updated to Modern or altered to make them Modern. Windows 11 also supports the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and is compatible with all current and future devices. The operating system can be installed on any Windows-based device.

Auto HDR & Direct Storage support
Direct Storage allows the graphics card to load textures directly from the SSD without going through the processor, freeing up processor resources for other duties and reducing texture load times. In this way, even on vast maps, provided they have a strong M.2 disc, they will be in the game in less than 5 seconds, a fraction of the time it takes to load today’s games.
Another significant advancement will be Auto HDR, a feature found in the Xbox Series S / X that will be exclusive to Windows 11 and will enable games that do not support HDR to add it and so increase graphic quality. It will be compatible with all games that use DX11 and DX12, therefore it will support thousands of titles without the requirement for developer additions.

Dictation and voice command
Voice typing was exhibited as an out-of-the-box experience in the Microsoft briefing, where dictation can be used to type into a Word document with punctuation included. Furthermore, voice commands such as “delete” are shown to be capable of removing words and sentences. For several Microsoft products, voice support has been included in a limited capacity.
The voice typing can also be used for text-to-speech by either a person or a machine
Microsoft has shown how Word, OneNote and PowerPoint can be edited with the input of voice dictation. Although users will be able to create content using the voice recognition technology, the demonstration suggests that Windows 11 will bring a real-world practical experience that can assist people with mobility impairments.
Windows store and integration with Amazon store
Windows 11 store will be integrated with Amazon app store, which lets you to install android app on Windows, now that’s a whole new type of play.
Microsoft came to an agreement with Amazon to integrate Amazon AppStore support into Windows 11. Users of Windows 11 can browse the store, install and manage apps and games available on it, and use them on their devices, according to sources. Microsoft did not go into details of the talks with Amazon. Integrating the Amazon AppStore is seen as a way for Microsoft to capture some of the roughly 700 million+ devices that use the Android operating system, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. The pact is seen as a response to Amazon’s platform, which is already integrated into some other Android apps.
The news comes as Google is said to be nearing completion of its own mobile platform, which will be similar to iOS in that it’s tightly controlled by Google and that it will be Google’s exclusive.
New widgets or old Gadgets – AI powered
Windows 11 comes with a handful of new Widgets and you can access, add or remove, customise, resize and rearrange them. Windows 11 has introduced a ‘Widgets’ panel that brings you a host of information from various sources and apps. You can access the Widgets panel from the Taskbar, Start menu, Windows Explorer, Edge, Cortana and the browser.
While the new functionality in Windows 11 is a welcome one, the degree to which Widgets can be resized is still a long way from rival platforms. The next version of Windows will be more flexible in this regard.
If you can’t see the Widgets panel, you can enable it from the Settings menu in the Taskbar, Task Manager, Apps & Features or Desktop options. A tip, once the Widgets panel is open, if you press the right-most mouse button, a context menu will appear with options to change the widget location, resize it, enable notifications, add a widget, close the panel and more.

Secure boot and UEFI’s considerations In Windows 11, Microsoft built Secure Boot into the core of its operating system in an effort to make your life more secure and your data more private. But Microsoft offers three options for setting Secure Boot on or off: On/Off, Firm/Fast, and Free/Standard.
So, what are the differences between these and how does each impact how a Windows device is installed, run, or removed from a machine?
An Overview of Secure Boot, UEFI, and the Firmware Interface Secure Boot refers to the method used to validate the boot process and start operating systems. If Secure Boot is enabled on a PC or laptop, then the BIOS will be the only entity that can initiate a boot process from a firmware. This is one of the areas where UEFI is stronger than legacy BIOSes. If Secure Boot is set to On/Off, then the BIOS will determine whether Secure Boot is enabled or not, and which features are enabled/disabled (UEFI only).
When Secure Boot is enabled on a UEFI-based device, that means the device will not allow any other boot mode than the Windows Boot Mode. Once the device is rebooted into the Windows Boot Mode, Secure Boot will be executed. This also means that any third-party boot loader (such as a Microsoft Boot Loader) will be disabled. And once the third-party boot loader is disabled, the device can only boot into the Windows OS.
If the firmware, such as the BIOS/UEFI, has the option for F/Fast or F/Free, this can allow for firmware customisations, such as the addition of third-party boot loaders. That said, how the Secure Boot process is implemented is also important. Secure Boot does more than just a hardware mechanism. It can also be implemented in the CPU, the processor on the motherboard. If the OS loads correctly, there is no way for the CPU to detect whether Secure Boot is enabled or not. What this means is that if the firmware does not load the OS to the point where the CPU can verify the OS, then the CPU won’t be able to tell whether Secure Boot is enabled or not. This is why on older, Legacy BIOS systems lack some security.
